The SAE Institute's mission is to build industry infrastructure tailored to the respective technology, market and industry member groups while satisfying time horizons and providing the responsible resources to enable achievement of industry objectives.

Clients include private companies, government agencies, individuals, and trade associations. Building consensus and break through barriers to achieve solutions, and the ways by which those solutions take shape, are tailored to each client's individual needs.

Industry programs fall into three general categories:

• Consortia for the development of industry standards and compliance programs
• Professional Certification including professional development and continuing education
• Industry solutions

The working industry groups realize value from the SAE Institute by using its array of comprehensive management and operational support to realize greater efficiencies as the industry group focuses on its respective technologies, programs, goals and objective while operating within the SAE Institute infrastructure and legal framework.
